Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s)
End poverty by 2015. This is the historic promise 189 world leaders made at the United Nations Millennium Summit in 2000, when they agreed to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The United Nations Millennium Campaign supports and inspires people from around the world to take action in support of the Millennium Development Goals.
The UN Summit 2010 on the Millennium Development Goals, concluded with the adoption of an action plan to achieve the eight anti-poverty goals by their 2015 target date.
Eight goals:
Below each goal we have shown how Philippi Trust SA is contributing to achieving the MDG’s.
Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
• We employment over 200 people in our various project, generating an income for over 200 families.
• Our Training Department up skills hundreds of people each year. A compoment of some of our courses includes a healthy lifestyle and eating habits.
Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education
• Our Training Department educates the community, often the poorest of the poor.
• Education is a valuable part of our pre and post test counseling, when individual are seeking to know their HIV or TB status.
Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women
• Two of the courses offered by the Training Department, Succession Planning Training and the Thogomelo Project deals specifically with gender equality and through knowledge empower women.
• Our in – house Counselling creates a safe non judgmental place for women to freely express their feelings.
Goal 4: Reduce child mortality
• HIV Counselling and Testing for all
• Educating pregnant women (PMTCT – Prevention of mother to child transmission)
• Our Orphan and Vulnerable children’s programmes: Resilient Kids
Goal 5: Improve maternal health

• HIV Counselling and Testing for pregnant women.
• Pregnancy testing and Family planning offered at our non medical sites.
• Educating pregnant women (PMTCT – Prevention of mother to child transmission) at public health facilities.
Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
• Out reaches and wellness centers in communities that have a high burden of HIV and TB.
• HIV Department working closely with the Department of Health in the various Health Facilities
• Training Department has developed material that equips those working in the communities, providing support for those living with dread diseases.
Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability
• Through the HIV/TB Counselling and Testing, awareness is raised around dread diseases
• The ethos of Philippi Trust is to shift people from an “I” attitude to the “we” caring for others and the environment.
Goal 8: Develop a global Partnership for Development
• Partnerships with other International Philippi Trust Branches
• Friends of Philippi SA around the world
